NOTICE: RESIDENTS OF THE LOCAL SERVICE DISTRICTS OF HANWELL AND KINGSCLEAR
The Hanwell and Kingsclear Local Service Districts (LSD) Advisory Committees have undertaken an initial assessment of the local interest in coming together as a Rural Community.
While an LSD is not incorporated and may elect an advisory committee, a Rural Community is incorporated with an elected council initially responsible to provide community planning, emergency measures and administration services. The council can choose to become responsible for other local services such as fire protection, policing, solid waste management, recreation and others. The provincial government currently provides these services, which are paid for through property taxation.
As part of the process, a working committee representing residents and businesses from both LSDs was established to evaluate the potential benefits of a Rural Community and if there is enough local interest to move to the next step, a feasibility study. The committee has now completed its initial assessment with the assistance and support of the Department of Local Government.
Residents and property owners of Hanwell and Kingsclear Local Service Districts will be given an opportunity to gain knowledge of the results of the initial assessment and offer input regarding the potential establishment of a Rural Community as part of two open house sessions to be held at the following times and locations:
Monday, October 17th from 7-9 p.m. at: St. James Presbyterian Church, Hanwell Road
Tuesday, October 18th from 7-9 p.m. at: Kingsclear Community Center, Upper Kingsclear
Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend. A more detailed examination, in the form of a feasibility study and the remaining steps for the establishment of the LSDs of Hanwell and Kingsclear as a Rural Community will be carried out if there is enough community interest demonstrated at the open house sessions.
