FireSmart

What is FireSmart

FireSmart is a national program that helps communities reduce the risk of wildfire and protect homes, neighbourhoods, and natural spaces.  Through simple steps such as managing vegetation around properties, keeping yards free of combustible debris, and working together, residents can significantly reduce the chances of wildfire damage.

How can you become FireSmart?

We can all help reduce wildfire risk by:

  • Clearing brush, downed trees and leaves near your home
  • Not storing firewood within 10 meters from buildings
  • Choosing landscaping with combustibility in mind (ie: mulch)
